August 2008--Dr. Hoefs attends the AACP 24th International Clinical Symposium in Indianapolis, IN.
Indianapolis, IN was the host for the 24th International Clinical Symposium for the American Academy of Cariofacial Pain, in early August 2008. The title of the event was "Headaches & the TMD Patient."We have moved!
We have grown so much in the past few years, that we have now moved to a larger facility. But don't worry, we didn't go far. In fact, we are just across the parking lot! In January 2006, Dr. Hoefs attended the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain conference in Arizona. At this conference, they discussed the science of sleep disorders and oral development. While in attendance, Dr. Hoefs took the Fellowship exam. To be eligible for a fellowship, Dr. Hoefs had to have treated a minimum of 300 patients, have at least 500 hours of continuing education in TMD, have a minimum of 5 years treating TMD, and be recommended by two AACP diplomates or fellows. He was required to pass a 250 question written exam, with a minimum of 70% correct, and give a presentation and defend two treated TMD cases before two examiners from the AACP Board of Directors. We are happy to announce that Dr. Hoefs has earned his Fellowship, and was conferred this honor at an awards ceremony in July 2006!- www.aacfp.org

Dr. Hoefs Attends Sleep Disorders Conferences
In January 2006, Dr. Hoefs attended a Science of Sleep Disorders and oral development conference in Arizona. Then in March, Dr. Hoefs traveled to Fort Worth for a conference involving Oral Appliance therapies for sleep disordered breathing. Also in March, Dr. Hoefs attended a hands-on course with Dr. Barry Glassman, one of the leading practitioners of dental sleep medicine. With this advanced training, Dr. Hoefs is able to diagnose and treat those who suffer from sleep disordered breathing. The Academy is an honorific organization founded to assist in providing continuing dental education to the dental profession in lesser-developed countries. In addition the Academy is involved in humanitarian projects around the world and through its Foundation provides grants and funds for education, patient care, professional improvement and other avenues which promote the advancement of the dental profession and human welfare.
The Academy inducted 53 new Fellows from Canada and the United States and into its 2005 Honor Class at a Convocation Ceremony carried out during its Annual Meeting. Currently the Academy has members in 64 different countries around the world. This year new Fellows have been inducted in convocations held in Manila, Philippines; Adelaide, Australia; Cologne, Germany; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; and Montreal, Canada.
The Academy of Dentistry International is an honor society for dentists dedicated to sharing knowledge through continuing education in order to elevate the standard of dental care, better serve the dental health needs and improve the quality of life throughout the world. By the support and sponsorship of special educational and service projects, the Academy directly contributes to the improvement of dental health and to the well being of people worldwide.
Recent Coursework
Dr. Hoefs has attended several advanced courses as he works towards a Fellowship in the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain. In 2005, Dr. Hoefs and his staff attended three conferences.In late January, Dr. Hoefs attended the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain at Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The course was entitled, "Craniofacial Pain and TMD: The Future Today." They discussed acute, chronic and occult craniofacial pain, and the examination and digital documentation of craniofacial pain.
Then in February, Dr. Hoefs and his staff attended a course entitiled, "Interdiciplinary Treatment for Orofacial pain and TMD," in San Diego, CA. Dr. Hoefs, Barb and Dawn enjoyed sharing treatment experiences with other TMD support staff. They were able to observe all the latest technology in diagnosing and treating TMD. In addition, the whale watching and desserts were highly complemented!!
Dr. Hoefs traveled to Milwaukee to attend a meeting for the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain. They discussed Cranial Anatomy and theraputic injection techniques.
In August, 2005, Dr. Hoefs went to Oklahma City, Oklahoma to attend the 20th Anniversary Internation Symposium for the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain. The conference was titled "20 Years of TMD & Craniofacial Pain: Multiple Occlusal Philosophies: Defusing the Confusion."
In 2004, Dr. Hoefs attended several conferences related to TMD and Orthodontics.
In February 2004, Dr. Hoefs attended "in office training" with Dr. Steven Olmos, who is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain. This was at the TMJ Therapy Centre in San Diego.
There were two Bioresearch conferences in 2004 that Dr. Hoefs attended. The first was in April, and the second in October. Dr. Barry Glassman was the instructor for the second conference, where they discussed the BioPak equipment, used in diagnosis of TMD.
